• Multiple fires and wreck create busy weekend for firefighters

Unattended cooking, a downed power line, the smell of smoke during a thunderstorm, automobile accidents and entrapment were reasons the Thomson Fire Department was keep busy from Thursday to Sunday.
A grass fire behind 824B Street, called in at 9:21 p.m. on Thursday, began the varied responses by the city fire department over the weekend. Although the cause of the fire is unknown, Fire Chief Rick Sewell noted that a bystander reported children playing in the area when the fire started.
Fourteen personnel, two engines and a ladder truck rolled to a structure fire at 327 Walnut Street at 6:02 a.m. on Friday.
