Funeral services for Amanda Stapleton Curtis, 97, of Wrens, Ga., mother of Cynthia Smith & James, Herman, Olin & George Curtis, were held on Sat., July 28, 2012, at Wrens Chapel A.M.E. Church. Interment was in Sugar Hill Cemetery.

Irene Goodin
Irene Elizabeth Pennington Goodin, 96, of Matthews, Ga., wife of the late Samuel M. Goodin, passed away on Thurs., July 26, 2012.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 29, at James Funeral Home in Wrens, Ga. Interment followed in Woodland Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends on Sat., July 28, at James Funeral Home.
Henry R. Griffin
Retired LTC, US Army
Henry “Ralph” Griffin, 92, of Appling, Ga., died on July 29, 2012 at Trinity Hospice Hospital.
He was born February 1, 1920 on a small farm in Marshville, N.C., the elder son of the late Henry Griffin and the late Gertrude Little Griffin.
Ralph enlisted in the U.S. Army upon graduation from Marshville High School. As part of “The Greatest Generation,” he served his country in three wars, including the European Theater of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He participated in the Normandy Invasion as a Sergeant Major with an artillery company. He retired a Lieutenant Colonel and was awarded The National Defense Service Medal w/OLC, Vietnam Service Medal, Korean Service Medal w/7 Bronze Service Stars, Republic Of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Bronze Star Medal w/OLC, 5 O / S Bars, United Nations Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. After serving 30 years in the U.S. Army, he returned to serve 15 years as the Fort Gordon Army Field Printing Officer.
During the next 25 years, (the golden years) he enjoyed excellent health, his winters in Florida, traveling with his Airstream Buddies, square dancing, vegetable gardening, supporting his church (The Shepherd’s Church), and helping others. The highlight of his mornings was meeting with “The Board of Directors” at Jimmy’s Garage to discuss the world situation. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his captivating storytelling, and belief that you can never have too many cars.
He is survived by wife, Joyce of Appling, Ga.; six grandchildren, David Griffin of Cincinnati, Ohio, Barbara Harris of Newburg, Ind., Brian Eldridge of Boonville, Ind., Drew Griffin of Tampa, Fla., Wade Griffin of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Krystal Vogtner of Atlanta, Ga.; 11 great-grandchildren; one stepson, Tony Hughes of Appling, Ga.; and the mother of his two sons, Maxine Straughn. He is predeceased by his sons, William Ralph Griffin and Barry Griffin; and his brother, Harold Griffin.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wed., Aug. 1, at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel in Thomson, Ga. with Pastor Bob Rollins officiating. He will be laid to rest at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services.

The family wished to thank Dr. Donald Townsend of Trinity Hospice and special care givers, Geraldine Morris and Lois Kendrick, for their attention and care during his battle with cancer.

Carolyn Hunt, 95, of Thomson, Ga., wife of the late George Hunt & mother of Henry Hunt & Carole Ann Edging, passed away on Wed., July 25, 2012.
Funeral services were held on Sat., July 28, at Thomson First Baptist Church. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.

Jimmy Chalmus Reese, 71, of Mitchell, Ga., husband of Marsha Annette Reese, died on Sat., July 28, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wed., Aug. 1, at Jordan's Chapel Church of God in Edgehill, Ga.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tues., July 31, at Sheppard Funeral Home in Gibson, Ga.
Edward Ricketson, Jr.
Edward Doughty Ricketson, Jr., 86, of Warrenton, Ga., husband of the late Lavonia S. Ricketson & father of Carroll Bolton, Edward Ricketson III, Rusty Ricketson & Carrie Neal, died on Fri., July 27, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Mon., July 30, at First Baptist Church of Warrenton. Burial will be in Sallie Hill Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Michael Anthony Tanner, 45, of Rayle, Ga., father of Emily Anna Tanner, entered into rest on Thurs., July 26, 2012.
Funeral services were held on Sun., July 29, at Tabor Baptist Church & Cemetery.
