Milan Turner, head football coach at Thomson High School, discussed the new ninth-grade football program last week during a meeting of the Thomson Bulldogs Athletic Boosters.
The ninth-grade team will play a seven-game season this fall, the same as the junior varsity. The varsity team will have a 15-game schedule.
Turner explained the benefits of adding the third football program.
“Last year 187 kids came out for football,” said Turner.
“You start running into a lot of attrition when you only have the JV and the varsity. You have all these young kids that are just standing out there,” said Turner.
