The Thomson Bulldog Athletic Booster Club voted to create a new scholarship named after the late Coach Luther Welsh Monday night. Although the scholarship is named for the head football coach, it can be awarded to a Thomson High School athlete from any sport. The booster club already awards two other $1,000 scholarships annually.
The vote to create the Luther Welsh Scholarship passed unanimously.
“I think it’s great that we named one for Luther; he did a lot for this school,” said Richard Downs, booster club president.
The boosters also suggested that if anyone wants to donate additional funds to the Luther Welsh Scholarship, the money could be added on top of the $1,000 the club is providing. The same holds true if anyone in the community wants to contribute to the other two scholarships.
