A man with local ties is part of the Athens music scene as a member of an indie-rock band.
T.J. Mimbs, who attended Briarwood Academy, graduating in 2004, is a member of The District Attorneys, a five-man group based in Athens and Atlanta. The group released their first full-length album, “Slowburner”, in April and will be on tour this summer. The band derived its name from a Bob Dylan song and since 2009 have kept the Athens-to-Atlanta road hot.
T.J., along with band members Drew Beskin, Chris Wilson, Frank Keith, IV and Walker Beard – will began this year’s 10-date tour July 7 at The Ivy in Atlanta and wind down Aug. 3 at the Alabama Music Box in Mobile. There may be some more dates added.
Mimbs grew up in Warrenton, attended preschool at First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Thomson First United Methodist Church praise band and played recreation department baseball in Thomson – developing ties to the community. In recent years, he has played solo sessions locally at Hogie Joes.
