Fifty years ago, 54 young men and women embarked on a new life’s journey when they graduated from the McDuffie County Training School.
Many of those former students reunited in Atlanta on June 2 for the golden reunion of the Class of 1962. The reunion was held 50 years and one day after walking across the stage on a very warm evening in Thomson.
Fifty years ago, they were addressed and led into their new lives by the late Senator Horace E. Tate as he gave the commencement address. Fifty years later, Senator Horacena Tate, his daughter, gave the reunion address to the Class of 1962.
In an e-mail expressing his memories about the Class of 1962 and McDuffie County Training School, John M. Bentley said it was hard to think about graduation without thinking about the 12 years of elementary and high school in Thomson.
