An era is drawing to a close at Belle Meade Hunt as the longtime kennelman, Allene Rivelle, prepares to retire.
“She is one of the few people that we have ever had in Belle Meade that was an expert in horsemanship and hound work,” Charlie Lewis, one of the Masters of Fox Hounds at Belle Meade Hunt, said.
Lewis said a knee problem has kept Rivelle from hunting for some time, but it hasn’t kept her from teaching young people to ride.
“She was a real spiffy rider herself,” he said.
Even though she doesn’t ride, Rivelle takes in old horses and cares for them on her farm in McDuffie County.
