An adult male and a juvenile were apprehended by police after they attempted to rob the Happy Valley convenience store Sunday afternoon.
Individuals in a car traveling down Happy Valley Road called 911 after observing two individuals, in an altercation, at the rear of the store and a vehicle parked to the west of the store.
According to Major Ronnie Williamson of the McDuffie County Sherriff's Office, the caller provided detailed descriptions of the individuals fighting, the car and provided a tag number.
When the deputies arrived at the store at 4211 Wrens Highway following the 4:28 p.m. call, they learned that an attempted robbery had occurred.
Williamson said the individuals in the Jan. 15 altercation were the robber and the store clerk. When the man attempted to rob the store, the clerk grabbed a baseball bat and began swinging. The robber dropped the small amount of cash that he'd taken when the clerk gave chase with the bat.
Deputies also learned that the robber and another individual fled the scene in the car that was parked west of the building. The car was the one the passerby had already described during the 911 call.
